LITTLE POINT -- Multiple westbound vehicles were damaged Monday afternoon on Interstate 70, just east of the Putnam-Morgan county line, by a piece of debris on the roadway, Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported.

Preliminary investigation revealed that shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, a westbound semi tractor-trailer had lost a cargo support bracket from its trailer with the bracket falling onto the westbound lanes near the 54-mile marker.

Other westbound I-70 vehicles were unable to avoid the bracket in the roadway, ultimately striking it, State Police at Putnamville reported.

Three passenger cars were immediately disabled and forced to pull off onto the shoulder. Two of the vehicles were towed as a result of the damage while the other had tire repairs performed at the scene.

Meanwhile, another tractor-trailer stopped after encountering the debris and was checked for damage. However, no problems were found.

The tractor-trailer was being operated by Hornish Brothers of Defiance, Ohio, whose driver stopped to assist with the ISP investigation of the 3:08 pm. incident that occurred approximately 13 miles east of Cloverdale, authorities said.
