The Beech Grove United Methodist Church will celebrate the 56th anniversary of reopening on Sunday, March 17. Worship service is at 11 a.m., with a pitch-in dinner to follow.

The history of the church will be given and special music by Stephen Sell, grandson of Pastor Steve and a Purdue student.

The church was closed for six years before a petition was taken around by Hila Brattain and Mary Shonkwiler, both now deceased, and Helen Knauer, who remains an active member of the church.

The building was then one room with carbite lights and two wood stoves.

Now the church is now six rooms with electric heat.

Pastor Steve Johnson is the minister and serves alongside his wife Martha.

The church is located in Clinton Township near the Parke County line, three miles south of U.S. 36.
