HOLLAND, Mich. -- DePauw sophomore Hannah Lukemeyer is the recipient of the 2013 Elite 89 award, which is given to the athlete with the highest grade point average competing at the Final Four.

Lukemeyer is majoring in kinesiology and currently has a 3.973 GPA. She was presented with the award Thursday evening.

"It is nice to have all the hard work pay off and get recognition for that," Lukemeyer said "I didn't know ahead of time, so it was cool."

Students eligible for the Elite 89 award are sophomores or above who participated in their sport for at least two years at their school. They must be an active member of the team.

Ties are broken by number of credits completed.

Lukemeyer has played in 27 games for the Tigers this year, averaging four minutes per contest.

Her lone A-minus came in a New Testament class, she said.

"I just try to put the same effort into all my classes and work hard," she said. "You earn what you earn."
