Indy shooting victim said to be Greencastle man, 23

INDIANAPOLIS -- A 23-year-old man who was shot and killed in an alley on the near-north side of Indianapolis late Thursday has been identified as being from Greencastle.

Investigators have identified the victim as Keyeon Johnson, Greencastle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the shooting occurred just before midnight between West 30th and 31st streets and North Capitol Avenue in Indianapolis.

Police, who were summoned to the scene on a 911 call reporting gunshots being fired in the area, reported the victim had apparently been shot several times.

Johnson was reportedly on parole after two stints in the Department of Correction for two separate felony convictions of illegally carrying a handgun without license.

Indianapolis police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call 317-327-3475 or 317-262-TIPS (8477). Callers also can text "IDYCS" along with tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
