Tuesday, March 19, 2013

John David Sadler, 66, of Reelsville, went to eternal rest, Friday, March 15, 2013 after a three-year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Greencastle, the son of Clyde and Elizabeth (Varvel) Sadler, on Feb. 16, 1947.

John graduated from Reelsville High School in 1965. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as an engineer during the Vietnam War. Throughout his life he worked at the Zinc Mill, Limedale Ditching and later Criss and Hutcheson Construction.

He married Deborah Chew, who survives.

John retired from Criss and Hutcheson in 2009 and enjoyed having more time for fishing, woodcarving and enjoying time with his family. He was happiest at his home in Reelsville where he fed birds, gardened and hosted cookouts.

He was a generous man who was always ready to help family and friends. John was most proud of raising his family.

Family left with fond memories are his wife; two sons, Jeremy Sadler and wife Christine of New York, and J.D. Sadler of Greencastle; a daughter, Jerusha Humphrey and husband Ryan of Terre Haute; grandchildren Morgan, Mackenzie, Hayden, Avery, Cameron, Dylan, Emma, Jordan and Lacey; brothers Jerry Sadler and wife Barbara of Greencastle, James "Butch" Sadler of Reelsville, and Joseph Sadler also of Reelsville; two sisters, Trudy Sadler of Reelsville, and Melinda Treash and husband Marty of Putnamville, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Graveside services will be conducted at Croy's Creek Cemetery at 5 p.m. Friday, March 22 with Bro. Richard Hull officiating. Immediately following will be a memorial gathering at the Reelsville Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Putnam County Community Foundation with "Becky Brothers Scholarship" in the memo line, and mailed to 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, IN 46135.
