D. Maxine 'Nene' (Tiefel) Ream

D. Maxine "Nene" (Tiefel) Ream, 92, Eminence, passed away on March 20, 2013 at her residence.

Born on April 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Brown) Tiefel of Clay City.

She graduated from nurse's training at Methodist in Indianapolis in 1942. She was a nursing veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1943-47.

She retired from Navistar (International Harvester) in Indianapolis in 1983 as a factory nurse and later as a drug and alcohol counselor.

She married Chester L. Ream on Oct. 18, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1983.

One brother, Jim Tiefel, of Clay City, and a grandson, Jeremy S. Ream, of Eminence, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda R. (Ream) Larkin and husband, Arless, Cloverdale; a son, Steven A. Ream and wife, Norma Dee, Eminence; grandsons Scott A. McKnight and wife, Eminence, and Matthew J. McKnight, Indianapolis, and a granddaughter, Shelly Jo Burnett and husband, Eminence; six great-grandchildren; brothers Bill and Jack Tiefel; and a sister, Ruth Tiefel, all of Clay City.

She lived a full life serving and helping others.

Nene (pronounced Nee-nee) is the name given to her when her oldest grandchild couldn't say Granny. She was Nene to most everyone (especially the grandkids' friends) after that.

She will be cremated with no funeral or memorial service.
