Damage limited in Friday morning fire at Dixie Chopper Business Center
A Friday morning fire at the Dixie Chopper Business Center at the Putnam County Airport was contained to one room.
The Greencastle Fire Department was dispatched to the hotel and conference center shortly after 7:30 a.m. to a report of heavy smoke in the laundry room.
Firefighters arrived to find fire in the second-floor laundry room and smoke throughout the facility at 102 Ballard Lane.
Chief Bill Newgent said his crews used just 10 to 20 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze, but added that clearing smoke could take a bit longer.
"In these big buildings, it can be quite a chore getting the smoke out of there," Newgent said.
The largest structure at the Putnam County Airport, the Dixie Chopper building contains banquet and conference facilities, six hotel rooms, Final Approach Restaurant & Pub and Dixie Chopper's airport hangar.
It is unclear how extensive the smoke damage is in various parts of the building.
Putnam County Operation Life and the Greencastle Police Department also responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was uncertain as of Friday morning.
