Sheriff's Department

A Greencastle woman was ejected from her car and seriously injured in a Thursday morning accident.

Jessica I. Goins, 23, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 250 North in a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo when she spilled a beverage. As she reached to pick it up, her car veered off the south side of the road.

Goins told Deputy Mike Downing that she overcorrected and lost control, her car leaving the north side of the road.

The car then hit a concrete barrier and flipped several times.

Goins was ejected from the car. Her airbag had deployed, but she was not wearing a seat belt.

Operation Life transported Goins to a helicopter landing zone at Brick Chapel, from where she was airlifted to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Damage was estimated in excess of $10,000.

County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Natasha Renee Moore, 36, Indianapolis, was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

* At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Stephen Eugene Seketa, 33, Greencastle, was held at the jail for probation violation.

At 7:18 p.m. Garry Thomas Woessner, 41, Greencastle, was charged with violation of home detention.

At 9:15 p.m. Melissa Kempt, 26, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for theft.

At 10:13 p.m. Cheryl Leann Woodall-Swinford, 39, Greencastle, was booked in for failure to appear and driving with a suspended license.

City Police

Greencastle City Police investigated two traffic accidents occurring just minutes apart Thursday afternoon.

-- At 4 p.m., a two-car mishap occurred at Indianapolis Road and Greenwood Drive.

Dustin Crist, 28, Greencastle, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier. As he merged into the left turn lane, a 2002 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Danielle Burton, 18, Reelsville, pulled out of Greenwood Drive and a collision occurred.

Officer Albert Epple estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 4:16 p.m., a two-vehicle mishap was reported at Franklin and Arlington streets.

Fred Billings, 51, Greencastle, was eastbound on Franklin Street, driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, preparing to turn left onto Arlington Street when Catherine Lesko, 44, Reelsville, pulled out of Arlington Street in a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu and a collision occurred.

Billings and his passenger, Tommy Billings, 46, Greencastle, sustained minor injuries. The driver complained of head pain, while Tommy Billings was transported to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance, complaining of hip pain.

Total damage in the accident was estimated by Officer Jeff Modlin at $2,500-$5,000.

One traffic citation was issued recently by GPD Officer Nick Eastham.

-- At 9:25 p.m. Thursday, Eastham cited Alexis Wiltermood, 19, Martinsville, for 52 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to a number of recent dispatches.

* At 12:13 p.m. Sunday, GFD performed a medical assist with Operation Life at Hickory Creek at Sunset, 1108 S. Indiana St. Crews returned to station at 12:43 p.m.

* At 8:43 a.m. Monday, firefighters investigated an alarm at Humbert Hall, 208 E. Olive St. The alarm had already been reset by DePauw security. Crews cleared the scene at 8:58 a.m.

* At 8:21 p.m. Tuesday, personnel performed a lift assist at 805 Crescent Dr., clearing the scene at 8:38 p.m.

* At 4:17 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was called to a motor vehicle accident on Manhattan Road in front of Phoenix Closures for extrication. Crews returned to station at 5:20 a.m.

* At 12:14 a.m. on Thursday, firefighters assisted Reelsville with a structure fire at 16100 W. CR 500 South, providing manpower and equipment. They returned at 3:07 a.m.

At 4:20 p.m. personnel were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at East Franklin and North Arlington streets. There were no injuries or leaking fluids, so Greencastle police cleared GFD upon arrival at 4:28 p.m.

* At 2:11 p.m. Friday, firefighters performed a medical assist at Autumn Glen, 98 N. 10th St., returning to station at 2:49 p.m.
