S. Putnam kindergarten orientation set

South Putnam Community School Corporation will hold its annual kindergarten orientation for the 2013-14 school year, which will take place at the South Putnam elementary schools on April 3-4.

Students and parents should attend the orientation session of the school they will be attending in the fall. Those in attendance should plan to be present during the entire session at their respective school, 2.5 hours. A variety of information and activities are scheduled, so plan to be present the entire session.

Central Elementary sessions will take place on April 3. Last names A-M should attend the 9 a.m. session. Last names N-Z should attend the 12:30 p.m. session.

Fillmore Elementary orientation will take place on April 4 at 9 a.m.

A child must be five years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2013 to be eligible for kindergarten next year.

To be eligible for the first grade, a child must be six years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2013 except for those who attended a year of kindergarten previously in another school corporation.

During the orientation session, a pre-school screening check will be administered to each child. All children must be screened before being admitted to kindergarten for the first time. Those children who are not screened during the orientation will be screened the first week of enrolling their child in kindergarten this fall.

Parents must present the child's official birth certificate and immunization record as required by law. An official birth certificate may be obtained from the Board of Health in the county in which your child was born. It is also requested that your child's Social Security number on file. These records will be copied and returned to you.

Each school is taking a survey to determine the number of students who will be participating in orientation. Please notify the school if you have a child or know of a child that will be entering school next year.
