Clovers get season-opening sweep of Lanesville

The Cloverdale baseball team began its 2013 season with a strong statement on Saturday, sweeping Lanesville with 6-0 and 5-4 victories.

Senior Justin Wilson started game one for the Clovers, striking out four in four walk-free innings. Wilson, Cody Carter and Will Andersen combined for a one-hit shutout.

Carter and Anderson had two strikeouts each.

Wilson led the Clovers at the plate, as well. He and junior Kade Schroer each went 2-for-3 in game one. Cody Carter, senior Austin Mannan and Brayden White each had an RBI.

Tyler Carter got the start in game two. He, Cody Carter and Andersen combined for 20 strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

Tyler Carter had 12 Ks in 4.1 innings.

Schroer had another strong game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Cloverdale (2-0) hosts South Putnam today at 5 p.m. in their West Central Conference opener.
