Cougars stay perfect with quick win over Turkey Run, 7-1

ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam baseball team has been scoring runs like they're going out of style early this year, but they're still fashionable for now. The Cougars beat Turkey Run on Thursday 7-1.

Junior Beau Green got the win for NPHS, pitching a complete-game two-hitter. Green struck out 11 batters against just two walks.

North Putnam (3-0, 2-0 WCC) picked up a win in its first non-conference game of the spring.

Senior Kyler Badten continued to lead the way on offense. The team's shortstop went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Senior Michael Herrmann had a double and two RBI.

The Cougars offense has been well ahead of its defense in the first few games but the fielding picked up a bit Thursday.

NPHS committed 15 combined errors in its first two games, both wins against Greencastle, but only two against the Warriors (0-1).

Freshman Kyler Jeter had two hits and a double, senior Brody Perrine was 1-for-2 and junior Jordan Nauert was 1-for-2.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday when the squad plays a varsity-JV double-header at Covington beginning at 11 a.m.

North Putnam senior Michael Herrmann makes a defensive play in a game earlier this season. Herrmann hit a key double to score a pair of runs on Thursday that put the game out of reach for Turkey Run. (Banner Graphic/GRANT WIEMAN)

  • Good job guys. The boys have been preparing for weeks for a great season and I think they are doing a fantastic job at it already. Good Luck Saturday.:)
