City Police

Two minor accidents were investigated recently by Greencastle City Police officers.

At 11:10 p.m. Thursday, a two-car accident was reported on Bloomington Street at its intersection with Veterans Memorial Highway.

Mary Foster, 19, Poland, was reportedly southbound on Bloomington Street, driving a 1996 Geo Prizm when she realized she had missed a turn and was intent on turning around in the McClure station lot.

However, as she entered the intersection, her car collided with a westbound 1995 Pontiac Firebird, driven by Brian Thompson, 32, Brazil, who reportedly had the green light. Thompson said he swerved the Firebird to the left but could not avoid a collision with the Foster car.

Thompson complained of neck pain, Officer Matt Huffman reported.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 11:16 a.m. Thursday, a minor mishap was reported at 608 Ridge Ave. as Helen Williams, 79, Greencastle, backed a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero from her driveway.

She told Officer Albert Epple the engine raced as she backed the car, causing it to shoot off the driveway, across the lawn and over a two-foot retaining wall. Her car then struck a 2006 Saturn, owned by Phil and Berry Bush, Bainbridge, that was parked in the neighbor's driveway.

Total damage in the accident was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

One traffic citation was issued early Friday by GPD Officer Nick Eastham.

At 4:40 a.m., he ticketed Margie Martin, 67, Quincy for 50 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street.
