Cougars clobber Covington in five innings 21-3

COVINGTON -- The North Putnam baseball team stayed undefeated with a dominant win at Covington on Saturday, 21-3 in five innings.

The Cougars (4-0) started the game with senior Jake Haste (2-0) on the mound. Haste allowed one hit in three innings, a two-run homer in the third. He struck out three and walked two.

Though Haste could have continued, senior Kyler Badten came on in relief in the fourth to get in some work. Badten gave up one run and struck out three in two innings.

Senior Michael Herrmann continued to lead the Cougars at the plate. Herrmann went two-for-four with three RBI. Junior Jordan Nauert had two hits, four RBI and a three-run home run.

The Cougars fell behind 2-1 before the top of the fourth, then exploded for nine runs. They added 11 more in the fifth to dime Covington.

Haste was one-for-two with a double and two RBIs, Badten and Brody Perrine had an RBI each. Morgan Hensley walked three times in three plate appearances.

NPHS returns to action on Tuesday at Eminence at 5 p.m.
