Cloverdale roofing project closing in on completion

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale School Board again discussed the ongoing roofing project and its technology plan during its monthly meeting Monday evening.

Ben Rawlins stepped in for Dan Sulkoske, who couldn't make it to the meeting, to give an update on the progress of the roofing project, which is nearly complete.

"The good news is that the elementary school roof is now substantially complete as of today," Rawlins said.

Work is still ongoing with the high school HVAC project. However, all the equipment is now on site and the only thing left to install is the new chiller, which will be done before graduation.

"We're making good progress and we're pretty much on schedule," CCSC Superintendent Carrie Milner said.

The board is still waiting on the completion of the barrel roof at the high school. It was noted last month that Danco Construction was working on completing the project, but there have been delays due to weather and temperature issues. It is uncertain when the roof will be completed as the coating can only be done weather permitting.

Milner also gave the school board an updated on its technology plan, which is funded through the capital projects fund.

"Part of our capital projects includes replacing staff equipment as well as computer labs," Milner said. "We are in our second year of our three-year technology plan so it's mostly some small updates."

In the first-grade level there are about three netbooks. In the second-grade through sixth-grade level they are at a one-to-one ratio.

"We started out as a pilot maybe six years ago and it's been wonderful," Milner said. "We started with that same group of students and every year that they move to the next grade level we try and keep them with either some netbook or we talked about I-pads, but we haven't discussed which way to go."

Milner advised the board that there has not been a decision yet on whether to purchase netbooks or I-pads for the students, but they hope to get a plan in place during this semester.

The board was also advised the high school computer labs will need some updating, which will be undertaken this summer.

All funds have been approved in the budget for this use. There have already been bids received from three companies, however the board did not officially decide which company it will go with.

Several routine issues were also taken care of such as reappointing Reese Nichols as the Owen County Public Library trustee as well as approving the 2013 summer school Snails for Trails program proposal.

The board also approved the following personnel issues: Courtney DeWeese for maternity leave, the resignation of bus driver and high school cafeteria worker Juanita Smith, the hiring of Cloverdale Middle School volunteer baseball coaches Jason Frye and Scott White, the hiring of Ashley Dayhuff as the Cloverdale Middle School volunteer assistant girls' track coach and the hiring of Megan Michel as the Cloverdale High School softball pitching coach.

The following students were also honored as Cloverdale Students of the Month: Anna Powell of Cloverdale Elementary School, Adair Bock of Cloverdale Middle School and Christyn Willis of Cloverdale High School.

  • Is the guy at the bar lying when he said last week ago monday a bus driver was tested at .13 after the morning pick up? He said they failed a random test and was told to quit instead of getting fired so those kids parents wouldnt know about being driven by that person. I hope he was lying,Id hate to think something like that would be covered up.Wouldnt the company giving those test have results? Glad I wasnt those parents if thats true.
