Clovers stay locked in, complete two-day sweep of Bulldogs

The Cloverdale baseball team improved its perfect West Central Conference record by getting a pair of wins against Monrovia this week.

The Clovers won 9-2 on Monday, then completed the sweep Tuesday with an 8-2 win at Monrovia.

Cloverdale (6-1, 4-0 WCC) is playing well offensively, defensively and pitching early in the season.

On Monday senior Justin Wilson struck out 12, walked two and allowed two earned runs in a complete-game effort. He was also 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs.

Senior Austin Mannan also had two hits, including a home run. Cody Carter was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.

At Monrovia on Tuesday Tyler Carter got the start. He picked up the win, lasted six innings and allowed two earned runs, two walks and struck out eight.

Will Andersen had two strikeouts in the seventh and earned a save.

Tyler Carter helped his own cause, going 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Mannan and Wilson also had big days, each going 2-for-4 for the second-straight day.

Wilson scored two runs and Mannan added a double. Freshman Brayden White was 1-for-2 with a two-run home run.

The Clovers next play at Turkey Run on Thursday at 5 p.m.
