ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam softball team defeated Turkey Run on Tuesday 6-1.

Sophomore pitcher Sabrina Surber recorded 17 of a possible 18 outs by strikeout in six runless, walkless innings of work.

Senior Katie Welch had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs to lead the team.

"It's been really nice," NPHS coach Benny Ault said. "We are putting up runs and Sabrina Surber and (junior catcher) Bailey Ault both are doing a great job together. They were working well together on their pitch-calling and keeping batters on their toes."

Freshman Jenny Heron came in to pitch the seventh inning for North Putnam. She struggled initially, Ault said, but soon found her groove.

Heron forced consecutive pop flies, then Kayla Fish ended the game with a spectacular catch in right field.

"Surber is pitching good, but Bailey Ault is making some good stops and not letting anything past her," coach Ault said. "The team as a whole is playing really well and I couldn't be more proud of how they are playing right now."

North Putnam picked up its third win last Thursday when the team beat Eminence 10-0 in five innings.

The Cougars will attempt to move to 5-0 when they host Rockville on Thursday at 5 p.m.
