Flower Power fundraiser set to aid Habitat for Humanity

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Putnam County Habitat for Humanity is conducting a short Spring Flower Power fundraising campaign with brochure orders taken until April 20.

Online ordering, meanwhile, will continue through April 26.

Delivery begins the end of April for spring planting with 50 percent of each order, except shipping, going to benefit Habitat.

Flower Power Fundraising brochures have been made available around Greencastle and Putnam County, including local banks, schools, businesses and the library.

Brochures also are available at the Habitat for Humanity office, 620 Tennessee St., Greencastle (open Monday, Wednesday and Friday).

Interested persons may call Marj Weaver at 317-374-4012 for brochure delivery. Orders with checks may be mailed to the office or persons may call Weaver for pick-up.

To order online, persons need to provide an email address to Weaver at marjngeo@yahoo.com. They then will receive an email to order online until April 26.

Varieties available include Old Fashioned Bleeding Hearts, Lily of the Valley, Early Glow Strawberries, Sarah Bernhardt Peony, Wide Brim Hostas, Ace Summer Sunset Dahlia, sunflowers and lilies of all kinds. Also available are early spring into fall blooming bulbs, bare-root plants, pips and mats, even flowering gift wrap with embedded seeds.

Orders of $40 or more will receive a bonus of 10 free Black Surprise Lilies. Shipping fee is $5 to your home address (no P.O. boxes). Order is exempt from Indiana state tax.

Order forms have space for six orders, so Habitat officials urge interested persons to also ask friends, neighbors and family to order.

Participants will be supporting Habitat's mission to build or rehab homes for people in need. Those who qualify for homes are required to do sweat equity, pay a small downpayment and pay an affordable zero-interest Habitat mortgage.

Since no local Habitat for Humanity fundraisers have been conducted for several years, PCHH is much in need more funding.

There will also be a summer campaign for shipping in the fall season.
