Frank Portolese Trio to play Jazz at the Duck

DePauw Jazz at the Duck will present the Frank Portolese Trio from 8:30-10:30 p.m. today at The Inn at DePauw's Fluttering Duck.

The trio features 1975 DePauw graduate Frank Portolese on guitar, along with Fred Withrow on bass and Sam Withrow on drums.

Jazz guitarist Portolese has been active in the Chicago area as a performer and educator for more than 25 years. He has performed throughout the U.S., the U.K. and Europe.

His performing credits include Eddie Harris, Les McCann, Shelley Manne, Ira Sullivan, Catherine Russell, Claude "Fiddler" Williams, Bobby Shew and many others. His pop performing credits range from Sammy Davis Jr. to Clay Aiken.

Frank's debut CD "Transparent" is on the Southport label and was released in 1994. His second release "Last Call," also on Southport, was released in February 2000. His latest "Plectrum Jazz Guitar Solos" was released in November 2010.

Frank founded the Jazz Program for Midwest Young Artists, a youth music organization located at Fort Sheridan, Ill. He currently teaches in the jazz programs at the University of Michigan and at Elmhurst College.

His past teaching credits include the American Conservatory of Music and the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp. He has done clinics and master classes throughout the Midwest and in the U.K.

The event is free and open to the public.
