Bridgeton sets annual Mountain Man Rendezvous
BRIDGETON -- The Parke County town of Bridgeton will host its 21st annual Mountain Man Rendezvous Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28.
Activities will be staged from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, offering a taste of authentic pre-1840s living in a beautiful historic setting.
The Mountain Man encampment will be complete with trading posts and pioneer goods for sale. Live black powder muzzleloader shooting will be staged, along with a primitive bow shoot, a canoe race on Raccoon Creek, and knife- and tomahawk-throwing demonstrations.
Pioneer crafters will be at work throughout Bridgeton with authentic old-time activities for the children.
The 1822 Case Log Cabin will offer a lesson in authentic pioneer hearth cooking, including the popular "chicken-on-a-string."
Visitors can tour the Bridgeton Grist Mill for a live 1800s corn-grinding demonstration and try some fresh stone-ground Parke County products.
There is no admission charge to any of the aforementioned events.
The Bridgeton Volunteer Fire Department will have a Jonah Fish Fry from 2-7 p.m. Saturday at the new firehouse. Food vendors will also be available.
Bridgeton is located in southern Parke County, nine miles south of Rockville, or by taking State Road 59 north from Brazil to the Bridgeton billboard.
