Relay for Life to take place Saturday

Thursday, April 25, 2013

After months of preparation, it is almost time for this year's Relay for Life, which will take place Saturday from noon-midnight in DePauw's Indoor Tennis and Track Center.

Due to the ongoing construction at the Blackstock parking lot, there will be a shuttle service provided from three areas, Ohio St. lot, Hogate South and Ridpath Elementary.

Parking at the Julian lot will have limited parking with no shuttle service.

The main entrance to this year's event will be on Hill St. The north entrance of the Indoor Tennis and Track facility will be the only entry and exit point this year. Only emergency vehicles, shuttles, pedestrians and the Relay Committee allowed to park by this entrance.

There will also be the public safety guard will be directing traffic and pedestrians.

Due to an expected large turnout it is estimated that the maximum wait time for the shuttle service will be 10-15 minutes. If there are issues participants are advised to call Stewart Burns at 586-3313, Betsy Corrigan at 708-522-2884 or Dick Shuck at 301-0409.

Shuttle service will be available from 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Participants are allowed to bring campsite items on the shuttle, as long as they are not too large. All students are encouraged to walk and not use the shuttles.

Those participating in Relay for Life this year will have a 10 x 10 campsite. Participants are allowed to have stand-up tents, couches, chairs and coolers.

However, heat-driven items, nails, stakes, paint or tape on the floor and handguns are not allowed.

All campsites will be located in two places, within the track closest to the north side and along the eastern wall of the facility. There will be no access to power outlets during the event.
