Clovers can't be slowed by S. Vermillion

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale varsity baseball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back against South Vermillion on Monday. The Clovers won 8-2.

Senior Austin Mannan hit his sixth home run of the young season and finished with four RBIs, helping senior Justin Wilson pick up the win.

Cloverdale opened the scoring in the second, putting six runs across the plate. The Clovers added one more run in both the fifth and sixth innings, more than enough for Wilson.

Wilson allowed just two hits in five shutout innings. He struck out seven and walked zero. Wilson helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Juniors Kade Schroer and Tyler Carter and senior Nick Cupp also had two hits for the Clovers. Freshman Brayden White was 1-for-2 with three RBIs.

Cloverdale (12-3) returns to action Wednesday when it hosts West Vigo at 5:30 p.m.
