Cougars' baseball rocks Cadets

Senior Brody Perrine reached base three times and smashed a three-run home run in the second inning to help the North Putnam baseball team beat Cascade for the second time in as many days.

The Cougars (12-1-1, 7-0 WCC) won at home on Tuesday, 11-1 in five innings.

Perrine led off the game with a walk then advanced on a double by senior Kyler Badten, but the Cougars couldn't knock him in that inning. He took care of driving himself to the plate in the second, scoring juniors Coy Flynn and Beau Green in the process.

Green (3-0) got the start for the Cougars. He pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and striking out three.

Cascade's lone run came on a solo home run by senior Drew Scott with one out in the fourth inning.

Badten continued his solid play. He was 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and made several big plays at shortstop.

As a team, the Cougars turned three double plays.

All of the NPHS players who started the game had at least one hit. Badten, senior Kaleb Belcher and junior Coy Flynn each had two.

The win puts NPHS one game away from clinching a share of the West Central Conference title.

The Cougars will get a chance to cinch it on Wednesday when they travel to South Putnam to make up a game that got delayed last week.

NPHS beat Cascade in extra innings on Monday, 8-4. Badten started that game, throwing 6.2 innings and got a no decision.

Senior Jake Haste (5-1) pitched the final 1.1 to get the win. Flynn was 3-for-5 on Monday. Haste, Flynn and freshman Kyler Jeter each doubled at Cascade.

Wednesday's game against the Eagles is scheduled to start a little after 5 p.m.
