American Girl Mother's Day party slated May 7 at PCPL

The Putnam County Public Library will host an American Girl Mother's Day Party on Tuesday, May 7 from 4-6 p.m.

Girls should bring their mother or special caregiver, their favorite doll, and a hat of any style to the party.

Prizes will be awarded for the oldest, funniest and prettiest hat.

There will be a special guest appearance by Miss Indiana South Erin O'Brien, who will sing and speak on the topic of "The Stem Revolution: Empowering Young Women to Pursue the Sciences."

O'Brien is a sophomore at DePauw University where she is pursuing a major in Computer Science. Currently, she is also an intern in the Information Technology Associates Program (ITAP), which is a Program of Distinction at DePauw that allows students to combine education experiences in technology with their liberal arts education.

Additionally, O'Brien is the 2013 recipient of the Katherine Cox Hoover Scholarship for a sophomore who has demonstrated outstanding character, leadership and special talents in extra-curricular activities.

Erin recently won the title of Miss Indiana South and will go on to compete at Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, June 22 for the chance to compete at Miss America.

Festivities will also include a tea party with cupcakes, making a Mother's Day craft and a hula hoop contest.
