Flood victims asked to contact county planning office

Friday, May 3, 2013

A simple phone call could bring financial assistance to Putnam County residents affected by last month's flooding.

By contacting County Planner Sandy Amers at 658-2786 or pcplanning@yahoo.com, residents can get their homes on the list to be inspected for eligibility for assistance money through the Department of Natural Resources.

Amers emphasized that even homes already inspected by Putnam County Emergency Management need to be inspected again, as this is part of a different program.

"Even if they've had one from the EMA, we still need to do one," Amers said.

The initial inspections by the EMA was for FEMA to determine if the county or state might be considered federal disaster areas.

As flood plain coordinator, Amers, along with Art Kenworthy, will be conducting these inspections to possibly bring individual assistance to homeowners from the Department of Natural Resources.

The county is responsible for inspecting such homes in unincorporated areas, as well as Bainbridge and Russellville, which have interlocal agreements with the county on the matter.

Residents in other incorporated areas with flood damage need to contact town or city officials.
