Clovers shoot solid 177 at four-team meet

GOSPORT -- The young Cloverdale boys' golf team has steadily improved all year. Thursday's four-team meet at Rolling Meadows was more of the same as the Clovers finished third with a 177.

Sullivan won the meet with a 157, followed by Owen Valley's 167 and White River Valley's 200.

Freddy Fislar shot a 39 to lead the Clovers, which tied for the third-best score of the day.

"Freddy played a great round," Cloverdale coach Doug Wokoun said, "clearly his best round to date. He managed the course very well and is playing his best golf right now."

The Clovers also had solid scoring from Rylan Mattocks (44), Chase Snyder (45), Aaron Whitlock (49), Kylar Galloway (52) and Devin Bassett (55).

"Rylan and Chase both played pretty well and are starting to find the consistency that we have been lacking," Wokoun said. "We are a very young team -- only two upperclassmen in the top six -- and each match we are seeing incremental improvement in all parts of the game.

"Aaron was a little off, but still played six of the nine holes pretty well."

Cloverdale (5-5) travels to Hoosier Hills on Tuesday to play Clay City at 4:30 p.m.
