Cloverdale bats come alive against White River Valley
CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale baseball team got hits -- and power -- from top to bottom on Thursday in a 13-3, five-inning win over White River Valley.
Senior Austin Mannan reached base four times, going 3-for-3 with a two doubles and four RBIs, raising his season average to .483.
Justin Wilson started for Cloverdale, throwing a complete game and striking out three. He allowed one earned run on seven hits and three walks.
Cloverdale (14-4, 6-2 WCC) had five extra-base hits against the Wolverines, all doubles.
Senior Nick Cupp was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Brody Pfaff had a double, 2 RBIs and run scored and sophomore Brantson Scott was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs.
The Clovers trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the second, then exploded for four runs.
Cupp and Scott each had one-out singles, then Pfaff cleared the bases with a double to left center.
After Wilson walked, Mannan doubled to left and cleared the bases again.
Cloverdale tacked on four more runs in the fourth and, as Wilson settled in, the Clovers took control of the game.
They finally put White River Valley down for good in the fifth. Six straight batters reached base in the inning and Cupp's base hit through the hole in the right side of the infield scored two runs to give CHS a 10-run lead that stopped the game.
Senior Cody Carter also had two hits for Cloverdale, and junior Tyler Carter had one.
Wilson (7-1) is closing in on single-season and career records for wins at Cloverdale, with a chance to surpass both in the next few weeks.
Cloverdale has a few days to rest before playing Clay City on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
