Greencastle High School sophomore JOSEPH FIELDS recently placed third at the Rotary District 6560 speech contest in Indianapolis.

Fields' speech explored Rotary's Four-Way Test and how it can be a guide to those facing trouble in their lives.

He also won the Greencastle Rotary Club contest with the speech in which he discussed his experiences through several childhood surgeries to correct a cleft palate.

For his performance, Fields received a $300 prize.

A Greencastle resident was among the 10 new inductees to Franklin College's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta English honor society.

Sophomore TESS HANDY is daughter of Bernard and Lynn Handy.

Sigma Tau Delta, founded in 1924, is an international society that recognizes academic achievement for undergraduate, graduate and professional English studies. The society also promotes literacy, encourages cultural stimulation through English and literature and fosters exemplary character among its members.

Eligible students must have a B average or higher in English classes, have completed one full year in the major and be in the top 35 percent of their graduating class. Full-time faculty and select other faculty members are also eligible.

Two Putnam County youths were recently named new junior members of the American Angus Association.

SARAH FRY of Roachdale and SARAH M. WOODWORTH of Bainbridge are new junior members of the national organization with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Mo.

Junior members of the Association are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in Association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.
