Park slates annual Police Boot Camp for June 10-14

Saturday, May 11, 2013

What is police training like? What do local police officers learn at the academy? What does S.W.A.T. mean? What other branches of law enforcement are there?

These and other questions will be answered through physical fitness training, team-building exercises, marching and flag ceremonies at the annual Police Boot Camp program sponsored by the Greencastle Park and Recreation Department.

Youth entering sixth, seventh or eighth grades can participate in K-9, SWAT team, rescue dive demonstrations and more at the June 10-14 camp (conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily) at Robe-Ann Park and the Greencastle Aquatic Center.

Registration fee is $10 per person, which includes a T-shirt, hat and snacks. Pre-registration is required.

Registration forms for Police Boot Camp and other Parks and Recreation Department programs can be picked up at City Hall, the Putnam County Public Library, the Putnam County Museum or found online at www.cityofgreencastle.com (then click the Parks and Recreation link).

Program partners for Police Boot Camp are the Greencastle Police Department, Putnam County Prosecutor's Office, Indiana Excise Police, Indiana State Police, Putnam County Fraternal Order of the Police, Community Corrections and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

A maximum of 40 youngsters can be enrolled in the boot camp (with a minimum of 10).
