CLAYTON -- Greencastle dominated the West Central Conference golf match Saturday at Deer Creek Golf Club, winning the team championship by 23 strokes, taking medalist honors with Alec Davis and placing all five of its players on the all-conference team.

The Tiger Cubs totaled 316 on the four scorecards that counted toward the team title. Cascade was second with 339, followed by Cloverdale's 351, North Putnam's 358, South Putnam's 383 and Monrovia's 435.

Davis shot 72, one over par, for the low round by four strokes over Cascade's Justin Franchville. Wataru Otaki had an 80, Luke Brotherton 81 and Tanner Dean and Jake Buis 83 for the Tiger Cubs.

"Alec had a great round and Wataru Osaki had a great round," Greencastle coach Steve Paquin said. "But it was a very off day for Luke."

Davis had 16 pars, one birdie and one double bogey.

"I played pretty well," Davis said. "I was happy with it. My one birdie, I hit an approach shot to six feet and made it. I scrambled pretty well. I had a lot of up-and-downs.

"If I had a par putt inside eight feet, I made it."

South Putnam junior Derek Chestnut tied Otaki for the fourth best round with an 80.

"I played pretty well," Chestnut said. "I really struck the irons well. My short game could have used a little work, chipping mostly. With the wet conditions on the course, there wasn't a lot of roll on the drives.

"I'm very happy to have made all-conference for the first time."

Cloverdale's Rylan Mattocks, who shot an 82, and Chase Snyder, with an 87, and North Putnam's Austin Judy, with an 87, also made the all-conference team, which went to the low 10 rounds including ties. There were 13 players on the all-conference team.

"We are very pleased with Rylan and Chase," Cloverdale coach Doug Wokoun said. "They played very well and managed some tough situations, Devin showed good improvement after a shaky start.

"We were disappointed that Freddy (Fislar, 90) and Aaron (Whitlock, 99) weren't able to put anything together. Freddy had eight pars, but six doubles. Aaron has had a balky putter for about a week and had some that just didn't fall."

Devin Bassett shot a 92 for Cloverdale.

Greencastle's WCC title was its third straight since Paquin returned as coach in 2011.
