The Cloverdale baseball team took a pair from Greencastle on Monday and Tuesday to finish the West Central Conference schedule with an 8-2 record, locking the team into second place.

Cloverdale (19-5, 8-2) won 5-2 at home on Monday, then won at Greencastle on Tuesday 4-1.

Greencastle (6-11, 3-7) finished the WCC in a tie for fourth-place with Cascade.

The Clovers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Monday when senior Austin Mannan knocked in Justin Wilson in the first inning.

Mannan finished the game 4-for-4.

Greencastle scratched a pair of runs of CHS starter Brayden White in the fourth inning.

Tanner Nicholson led off the inning getting hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a balk, then scored on a single by Cole Pohlar. Freshman designated hitter Brandon Gierke knocked Pohlar in, but White recovered to strike out the side.

White threw a complete game for the Clovers, allowed just five hits and struck out 11.

Cloverdale came right back in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Will Andersen doubled to start the inning, then scored on a base hit by Mannan.

Junior Tyler Carter hit a one-out line drive to left field that scored Mannan to retake the lead, then was thrown out trying to advance to second.

The Clovers added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kade Schroer and Andrew Howard both drew walks from GHS starter Seth Brown, then scored on base hits by Wilson and Mannan.

Brown went 5.1 innings for Greencastle, struck out four and walked six. He was replaced by Tanner Nicholson, who finished out the sixth inning.

Nicholson was 2-for-3 at the plate. Brown was 1-for-3.

Cloverdale plays at Owen Valley on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Greencastle is off until Monday when it travels to Northview at 7 p.m.
