Gooch fifth, DPU golfers in sixth midway through NCAA

DESTIN, Fla. -- Led by Paige Gooch's (Jr., Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) 78 and Kelsey Smith's (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) 79, the DePauw women's golf team shot a second-round 323 and is in sixth place at the midway point of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Baytowne Golf Course at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Gooch's two-round total of 151 is good for fifth place, while Smith is tied for 31st with a 161.

Camila Romero (Sr., Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) shot a second-round 82 for a two-round 165, while Jacqueline Carroll (Fr., Upper Arlington, Ohio) totaled an 84 today and 167 for the tournament. Abby Dickey (Jr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./St. Viator) finished the second round with an 84 for a two-round total of 168.

Laura Lindsey of Texas-Tyler leads the 111-player field with a 144 after shooting her second straight even-par round. Mary Hardin-Baylor and the University of Texas at Tyler are tied among the 21 teams as each has a two-round total of 617. George Fox is third at 623 followed by Methodist (631) and Williams (634).

DePauw, making its 12th straight NCAA appearance, has competed in all but the first two Division III Championships with nine top-four finishes including runner-up performances in 2007, 2008 and 2012. Last year the Tigers were second to Methodist by just six strokes. DePauw's 12 appearances ties Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the second-most in Division III history behind 13-time champion Methodist's 14.

The Tigers return to the course tomorrow with tee times beginning at 1 p.m.
