Kinesio Taping now offered at PCH Physical Therapy Dept.

The Kinesio Taping Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion.

The Kinesio Taping Method, which is now available at the Putnam County Hospital Physical Therapy Department, also provides extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.

Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio Tex Tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.

The Kinesio Method is a therapeutic taping technique not only offering patients support but also rehabilitating the affected condition.

By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.

Terry Schaefer is now certified to perform the Kinesio Taping Method at the PCH Physical Therapy Department.

"Kinesio taping has excellent results when treating swelling and pain relief, as well as improving conditions which were not helped from conventional treatment," he said. "It is not just for athletes; most people can have some type of benefit from this taping."

Putnam County Hospital and Tx:Team offer comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services.

Physical, occupational and speech services are located at PCH. Its therapists have extensive training in diverse programs such as Lymphedema, Wound Care, Sports Rehab, Vestibular, Swing to Home and Neuro, as well as general physical, occupational and speech therapies.
