Greencastle Aquatic Center to host a variety of events
The Greencastle Aquatic Center is officially open. The opening of the pool, which was scheduled for May 23, was delayed due to state law, which requires both air and water to be 70 degrees.
Due to both Windy Hill and DePauw University pools being closed for the season, the Greencastle Aquatic Center will be hosting a variety of events for all ages throughout this year's season.
Events include polar swim, which will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week from 6:15-8:15 a.m.
Lap swim will take place Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m.-noon. However, the lap swim schedule will change to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from June 10-July 19 due to the Sparks program.
Season pass holders get in free to both polar and lap swim with walk-ins being $3.
For the second year, Aqua Zumba will be offered by Tara Gardner of the Dance Workshop.
Aqua Zumba will take place Monday and Thursday evenings from 8:15-9 p.m. as well as Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 11-11:45 a.m. Season pass holders will get in for $3 with walk-ins being $6.
There will also be three sessions for swimming lessons for those ages 7 and up from 8:30-10:55 a.m. Sessions include June 3-14, June 17-28 and July 8-19.
Spots are filling up quickly, so it is advised to sign up as soon as possible.
The Water Babies program, designed for children six months to five years will have two sessions this season, June 17-28 and July 8-19.
The Water Babies program is designed for the parent to be involved in their child's exploration of the water as well as helping parents learn how to help their young one be more comfortable in the water.

A parent must be with the child at all times during Water Babies sessions. The fee is $30 per child.
The pool opens daily at noon with open swim from 12-5 p.m. and evening open swim 6:30-8 p.m.
Daily admission rates for the 2013 are unchanged from last season. Anyone age five and older will pay $5 to go to the pool, while those four and under are free.
