PCCF to host program to help protect non-profits

Thursday, May 30, 2013

The Putnam County Community Foundation will be hosting a program featuring Phil Purcell to provide attendees with a thorough review of policies and procedures to safeguard their nonprofit against negligence or intentional abuse. The workshop will take place on June 10 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Inn at DePauw.

Purcell is currently the Vice-President for Planned Giving and Endowment Stewardship at the Ball State University Foundation.

He has consulted on behalf of over 300 different charitable organizations with a focus of state and federal legal issues, philanthropy and nonprofit governance.

"As fiduciary agents of charitable gifts and other revenues to be used for the public good, nonprofit organizations must exercise prudent due care pursuant to legal, ethical and financial standards and best practices," said Purcell.

During the workshop, Purcell will explain in detail the role of the board of directors and review specific strategies and internal controls that will help any size organization make certain it is protected.

Coordinated by the Putnam County Community Foundation and the Montgomery County Community Foundation, the workshop is sponsored by Hendricks Power Cooperative.

The cost is $25 or $15 if registered and paid by June 3. This includes the workshop, a catered lunch and all workshop materials.
