Jack Haden Brackney, 89, a lifelong resident of Putnam County, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1923 in Putnam County to Bryan E. Brackney and Stella Gay Priest Brackney.

Mr. Brackney lived most of his life on the beloved family farm in Clinton Township, being the fourth generation to make their home there. He retired from Lone Star with 30 years of service and continued farming until his health declined.

Jack enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and coon hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

He married Betty F. Young on Aug. 28, 1943 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 2001. Jack was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Genie Rumley; two sons-in-law, Richard Heacock and Gerald Reynolds; a brother, John Brackney; a sister, Gay Aileen Goode; and a grandson, Joseph "Joey" Rumley.

Surviving are his daughters, Brenda Heacock and companion Mel Keyt of Greencastle, Jackie Reynolds and companion David Buchanan of Poland, Patti Vargo of Speedway and Lori Ford and husband Larry of Greencastle; a sister, Charlotte Wichmann; three sons-in-law, David Rumley, John Vargo and Allen Trent; 14 grandchildren including Amanda Demoret who he and Betty helped raise, 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home.
