PCPL hosting a variety of summer activities

School is officially out for the summer and the Putnam County Public Library has a variety of activities going on this summer to keep your child busy.

This year's summer reading program, "Dig into Reading" will begin Saturday, June 1 and will run until Aug. 3. Children can pick up a reading log from the library at 103 E. Poplar St. or from the bookmobile.

Children of all ages are encourage to participate in the program by keeping track of the books they have read or have been read to them and receive prizes for their efforts.

Also starting on June 1 is the Read-Away Your Fines program. The program, can be combined with the summer reading program and is an easy and fun way to get your account back on track for those age 18 and under.

Children can come to the library and check in at the Children's Desk to read away fines. For every 15 minutes of reading, money will be taken off for overdue charges.

This summer there will also be a Monday morning story and craft time beginning at 9:30 a.m. The program is designed for children ages eight years and up and will include a theme based craft.

Each Tuesday, there will be a movie beginning at 3 p.m. All movies are rated PG with the first one, "Wreck-it Ralph" occurring Tuesday, June 4. Other movies include "Wings of Life", "Quest for Zhu", "ParaNorman" and more.

Toddler Time will occur each Thursday at 10 a.m. This program is designed for children 12 months to three years of age. It's a fast paced, interactive story time with songs, finger plays and books. Each session is also followed by a simple craft time.

Also on Thursdays will be the Raising Readers program at 11 a.m., which is designed for those three to seven years old. This participatory program has games and or songs and is also followed by a craft time.

Brick Club will continue the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. Bring your imagination and love for building with Legos.

The Summer Teen Program will begin on Tuesday, June 11. This year, the program will focus around filmmaking. For more information contact Sam Hirt at shirt@putnam.lib.in.us or 653-2755 ex. 118.

Special performances this year include "The Wizard of Oz" performed by Stevens Puppets on Wednesday, June 12 at 3 p.m. The program is all ages.

There will also be a Water Show by Family Time Entertainment, which will take place on Wednesday, July 31 at 3 p.m.
