Two Greencastle residents were recently named to the Hope College dean's list for the spring semester. To be named to the list, a student must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Senior BEN WILSON earned the honor in his final semester at Hope, as did sophomore SARAH BEAMS.

Located in Holland, Mich., Hope College is a four-year, co-educational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of 3,343 and is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America.

The John Deere Technology program at Lake Land College welcomed 20 new technicians to the field at its annual graduation recognition banquet. Family and friends of the graduates recently gathered at the Walk Way in Mattoon, Ill. to celebrate the students' hard work and dedication.

"We appreciate the 18-year-long partnership with John Deere Company that allows Lake Land to graduate some of the finest technicians in the country," said Scott Lensink, president of the college.

JOSHUA HUNT of Bainbridge was among the 20 new technicians. He was sponsored by Wright Implement Co., Crawfordsville.

The John Deere Tech program, offered jointly by John Deere Company and Lake Land College in cooperation with area John Deere dealers, offers students many unique opportunities including earning a salary while learning through on-the-job training at a participating dealership; training on the latest John Deere tractors, combines and implements, and learning the newest diagnostic and servicing procedures.

Sponsored by area John Deere dealers, students also have the opportunity to move directly into employment with their sponsoring dealership upon successful completion of this associate in applied science degree program.

Two Putnam County students participated in the 115th Huntington University commencement exercises on May 18.

The following local students were members of the Class of 2013:

JESSICA FAUST is a 2013 January graduate from Greencastle. She earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary and middle grades education.

KENDALL FAUST is a 2013 May graduate from Greencastle. He earned a Bachelor of Science in middle grades education.

Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations

A number of local students were recently named to the University of Southern Indiana honors list for the 2013 spring semester.

These students included RYAN DEAN, CHELSEA HUGHES, EMILY JOHNSON, ASHLEY MCCALLIE and SAMANTHA WILLIAMS of Cloverdale; ELIZABETH BURNETT of Fillmore; SARAH DENNY and HILLARY SALYERS of Fillmore; and ALARIA JONES of Quincy

Undergraduate students must achieve a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 system) to be named to the honors list.
