County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 5:20 p.m. on Friday, Eric Lee Cummings, 36, Roachdale, was booked in on a probation violation.

* At 7:13 p.m. on Friday James Douglas Benge Jr., 34, Greencastle, was charged with possession of marijuana, two counts of invasion of privacy and harassment, criminal mischief and a probation violation.

* At 8:24 p.m. on Friday Jesse Madison Barker, 32, Roachdale, was charged with driving on a suspended license.

* At 10:05 p.m. on Friday Mikala Renee Jacobson, 19, Cloverdale, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamines.

* At 11:00 p.m. on Friday Bronson Luke Burgeson, 19, Greencastle, was charged with possession of marijuana.

* At 2:35 a.m. on Sunday Bradley Alan Eaton, 52, Indianapolis, was booked in on criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Greencastle Police Department

Greencastle Police made a pair of recent alcohol-related arrests.

* On Friday evening, Officer Ed Wilson responded to a call of a man walking out in front of traffic on Avenue B.

Arriving on scene, Wilson found an intoxicated man, Dillion Joe Pate, 22, Greencastle. Pate registered at .22 percent blood alcohol content on the portable breath test.

On further investigation, Wilson found that Pate was also the person wanted on an earlier shoplifting call to Walmart. He allegedly stuck two packages of steak valued at $33.99 into his pants and walked out of the store.

The meat was found discarded in a shopping cart in the parking lot.

At 9:30 p.m., Pate was booked into the Putnam County Jail for theft and public intoxication.

* At 5 a.m. on Sunday, Capt. Chris Jones arrested Matthew C. Robinson, 19, Greencastle, on East Street for being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

GPD has also issued the following ticket.

At 10:25 p.m. on Friday, Officer Eric Vaughan cited Sonney Basham, 19, Greencastle, for an expired license plate on S.R. 240. The tags had expired in February.

Sheriff's Department

* At 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, Chat T. Eply, 35, Greencastle, was traveling westbound attempting to cross State Road 75 on State Road 240 in a 202 Ford F150.

Eply told Lt. Donnie Pettit that he failed to see Paul E. Johnson, 62, Coatesville who was traveling south on State Road 75 in a 2008 GMC Sierra and collided in the middle of the intersection.

Eply was cited for failure to yield. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, Wilson Martinez, 44, Greencastle, was traveling west on County Road 125, just west of Gillespie St, in a 2007 GMC Sierra.

Martinez told Lt. Donnie Pettit that his trailer became detached from his truck and traveled into the Spiker Excavating Parking lot and struck a parked car, which was registered to Trissa and Paul Shrader of Reelsville.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 9:32 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 Kenneth R. Pritchett, 21, Reelsville, was traveling northbound on County Road 325 West in a 1998 Ford F150. Pritchett told Sgt. Jon Chadd that he looked down for something in the vehicle, which caused him to leave the roadway. He went on to say that he attempted to correct the vehicle, but was unable to and struck a utility pole.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 Trudy A. Guthrie, 47, Greencastle, was driving on State Road 231 North near State Road 236 in a 2014 Nissan Altima. Guthrie told Capt. Danny Wallace that a deer ran in front of the vehicle and she was unable to avoid a collision.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 7:05 a.m. on Friday, May 31, Timothy P. Sollman, 42, Reelsville, was driving southbound on Main St. in a 2004 General Motors Canyon Crew Cab when Ainsley K. Davis, 26, Cloverdale, pulled directly in his path in a 1996 Toyota Avalon from Boone Street.

Ainsley told Sgt. Jon Chadd that she was at a stop sign facing east Boone St. and attempted to turn north on Main St, but didn't see Sollman and pulled into his path.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 4:17 on Friday, May 31, Beulan I. Davis Roe, 86, Roachdale, was attempting to turn north on U.S. 231 from State Road 236 from the eastbound lane in a 2001 Buick Lesabre Custom.

Roe told Lt. Donnie Pettit that he failed to see Warner A. Soltermann, 45, Rockville, who was traveling southbound on U.S. 231 in a 1998 Dodge Ram.

Solterman braked and veered to the left, but could not avoid the collision. Both vehicles collided in the southbound lane, almost head on.

Roe rotated clockwise after the impact and came to rest on the southwest side of the intersection on the shoulder. Soltermann traveled in a southeasterly direction off the roadway and came to rest on the east side of U.S. 231.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, Ricki J. Evans, 16, Roachdale, was traveling west through the alley way toward South Public Street in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Evans told Deputy Matt Biggs that there was a bug or bee flying around her face and while attempting to swat the insect she was negotiating a left hand turn.

As Evans tried to remove the insect she took the corner wide and struck a stump, which caused damage to both the front end and undercarriage of the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to five recent dispatches.

* At 8:22 p.m. Saturday, GFD responded to an unauthorized burn at 509 Main St., returning to station at 8:42 p.m.

* At 6:37 a.m. Monday, firefighters investigated an alarm at 415 S. Locust St., clearing the scene at 6:45 a.m.

At 9 a.m. Monday, crews performed a medical assist at 702 Monon St. They returned to station at 9:31 a.m.

At 6:15 p.m. GFD was called to an oven fire at 306 Millstone Point. The residents had the fire out before firefighters arrived. They cleared the scene at 6:25 p.m.

* At 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, personnel investigated an alarm at 702 S. College Ave., returning to station at 8:07 a.m.
