Constantin 'Poppi' Osol

Constantin "Poppi" Osol, 91, of Greencastle, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

Born May 5, 1922 in Taganrog, Russia, he was the son of Glukaria and Dimitri Petrov.

Constantin finished high school and university in Taganrog.

He was also a Holocaust survivor, spending nearly three years in Buchenwald concentration camp.

He married Ann Pietrak in Germany and she preceded him in death in 2007. They were married for 60 years.

They immigrated to New York City with their daughter Tammy in 1950. He worked as an electrical engineer for 25 years. Upon retirement, they moved to Greencastle in 1984.

From 1959 through 2013, Constantin served as a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses, always eager to share the good news of God's kingdom with everyone he met.

Known for his warm hugs, Poppi loved people. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Tammy and husband Michael Dunn of Greencastle, sister Vera Petrov of Taganrog, Russia, and nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces in Russia.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nadia Petrov and brother Oleg Petrov in Taganrog.

A memorial service will be held July 13, 2013 at the Greencastle Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of service.

The family wishes to thank all who were so kind and helped make Poppi's last days comfortable.
