Four-car crash closes part of I-70 near Cloverdale exit

Friday, June 28, 2013

This evening at 5:40, Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to an eight vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 41 mile marker. The crash injured only one passenger.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Freightliner tractor pulling a box trailer and driven by Daniel Jovanovich, age 37, of Peoria, Ariz. was westbound on I-70 in the driving lane near the 41mm. Jovanovich failed to slow for slowing or stopped traffic and struck a vehicle in the rear. Jovanovich's tractor then struck other vehicles and forced them into other vehicles as well.

Linda Morgan, age 62, of Cloverdale was a passenger in a 2011 Subaru Outback driven by her husband and struck during the crash. Morgan was transported to a Hendricks County Hospital for treatment of head, arm, and leg injuries. The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. There were no other injuries related to this crash. Traffic was slowing or stopped for an approaching construction zone near the 40 mile marker.

The crash involved three tractor-trailer units and five passenger type vehicles. The westbound lanes were closed for nearly three and one-half hours for crash investigation and clean up.

Daniel Jovanovich was cited for Speed too Fast to Avoid a Collision. Drugs/Alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash.
