Gale 'Chubby' Stevens

Gale ("Chubby") Stevens, 66, of Brazil, passed away on July 5, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side.

Chubby was born July 13, 1946, the son of the late Edgar and Marie (Targget) Stevens.

He graduated from Van Buren High School.

Chubby married Martha Batchelor on Aug. 1, 2008.

A retired truck driver, Chubby also worked at Mobile gas station on South 59. Most recently he worked at the Inn at DePauw University after 26 years.

Chubby was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 2, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1127, and Brazil Moose Family Center.

In his free time he loved to play euchre, poker and pool, but most of all he enjoyed fishing.

He is preceded in death by parents and sister Emma Lou Bandy.

Chubby is survived by his loving wife Martha Stevens; children Shelly Sanders, Mike "Hoss" Stevens, Tana Stephens, Deana Powell, Tom Powell and wife Amy, Charlie Powell and wife Dede; siblings Thomas Stevens and wife Edith, Thelma Stevens, Gracie Crooker; mother-in-law Kathryn Braden; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as several extended family and friends; and the mother of his children, Sonnie Hinton.

The family would like thank everyone for all prayers and thoughts in their time of need. Special thanks go to Hospice of the Wabash Valley.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 at Calcutta Cemetery with Pastor Jay Kester officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at French Funeral Home, Brazil.
