Walker resigns as GMS principal
In announcing a lengthy list of personnel changes to the Greencastle School Board on Wednesday, Superintendent Dawn Puckett said she presented one "sadly."
Greencastle Middle School principal Tamra Walker has resigned her position, effective Friday, July 26.
Walker has accepted a position in Georgia, a decision she informed school administration of earlier this week.
"We cherish the years we had with Tamra," Puckett told the Banner Graphic. "She has been an exceptional employee and team member for us."
Puckett said the search for a new principal at GMS will begin today, with the job posting.
Even with the search beginning, the job is unlikely to be filled by the time school begins on Aug. 7.
Walker will remain with the school through the end of next week, helping prepare for the transition.
Afterward, the duties of the middle school principal are likely to be shared by assistant principal Brian Emmert, assistant superintendent Jeff Hubble and technology integrator Scott Weltz.
Emmert was hired as the assistant principal last month. Hubble has 20 years experience in a middle school office, and Weltz is the former middle school principal before he moved into his current position this summer.
Walker had served as GMS principal since July 2011. Prior to that, she spent one year as the principal at Ridpath Primary School and five years as Tzouanakis Intermediate School assistant principal.
All told, Walker spent 11 years with Greencastle Schools, serving in all five school buildings at some point. This was preceded by five years teaching for MSD Wayne Township Schools in Indianapolis.
Walker also attended middle school and high school in Greencastle, as well as earning her bachelor's degree from DePauw University.
Puckett said the hometown employee who served in a number of roles will be missed.
"We would certainly never stand in the way of an employee advancing," Puckett said. "We appreciate the many, many contributions she has made over the years."
