Additional arrest made in July 13 handgun incident

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

More than a week after she was found to be illegally carrying a firearm, one of the defendants in a recent drug bust was arrested again Monday, this time on a warrant for possession of a handgun without a permit.

Lindsey Deal, 29, Greencastle, was out on bond from charges of visiting a common nuisance when she was part of a July 13 firearms incident that resulted in the arrest of fellow defendant Brian Steve Doane, 31, Indianapolis.

Doane, who was riding in a car with Deal, was illegally firing a handgun from the moving car into farm fields. He was arrested for possession of a handgun without a permit, criminal recklessness with a firearm, pointing a loaded firearm and public intoxication.

Deal was not arrested at that time, but was found to be in possession of multiple firearms that she did not have a permit to carry.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department seized the handguns, but did not arrest Deal. The information was forwarded to the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office.

On Wednesday, July 17, Putnam Superior Court Judge Charles "Denny" Bridges issued a warrant for Deal's arrest on the latest charge.

She was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 8:12 p.m. Monday, July 22, posting $500 cash bond later that evening.

The original arrests of both Deal and Doane came as part of a late June methamphetamine bust that included eight total arrests.

Deal was arrested on June 25 for visiting a common nuisance. She was among four people in the rural Reelsville residence when deputies from Putnam and two other counties served the warrant.

She and five of the other defendants await a Sept. 25 pre-trial conference in Putnam Superior Court.

Doane was originally arrested on June 26 when he arrived at the scene while police were still processing the drugs, money and weapons found onsite.

He was charged with operating while intoxicated/refusal and possession of a controlled substance and will have an Aug. 28 pre-trial conference in Putnam Superior Court.

Neither Deal nor Doane faces any methamphetamine-related charges in the bust that resulted in the seizure of nearly four pounds of the drug and approximately $250,000 in cash.
