Troopers arrest three locals on meth-related charges

Three Greencastle residents were arrested on methamphetamine-related charges just after noon Wednesday by Indiana State Police troopers from the Putnamville District Meth Suppression Team.

The investigation had been ongoing for about the last 30 days, State Police officials said.

An altered-barrel shotgun, bulletproof vest and ingredients for a typical meth lab were confiscated Wednesday by Indiana State Police officers when they stopped a pickup truck in Greencastle and arrested the three occupants.

Acting on information received by the ISP meth unit concerning possible methamphetamine activity by the suspects, Troopers Adam Edwards and Shilo Raulston stopped a tan 2001 Chevrolet Silverado on 10th Street, just south of Veterans Memorial Highway.

During a search of the vehicle, the troopers found an active "One Pot" methamphetamine lab, a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches, and a bulletproof vest.

At completion of the meth production process, the lab would have yielded approximately two grams of methamphetamine, State Police officials said.

The three occupants taken into custody and incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail were Charles R. Sage II, 27, Mellissa Buis, 42, and Kandice Shalayev, 28, all of Greencastle.

Sage, the driver of the vehicle, is being charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B felony; possession of an altered shotgun barrel, a Class C felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Class D felony; and possession of precursors, a Class D felony.

Buis and Shalayev are facing identical charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Class D felony; and possession of precursors, a Class D felony.

Assisting at the scene Wednesday afternoon were ISP Sgt. Cory Robinson and Trooper Brent Robinson.
