Eagles softball star competes at fastpitch Premier Nationals

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -- Former South Putnam softball player Jenna Jones competed at the Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championships this week in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Jones's team, the Indiana Shockwaves 18U Gold, was eliminated on Thursday with a loss to in the second round of the consolation bracket with a 10-3 loss to the Virginia Legends.

To reach for the PGF nationals, a team must win one of 32 regional qualifying tournaments. It is the highest level of 18U travel softball.

Jones, playing centerfield after spending her prep career at third base for the Eagles, finished the three-game bracket stretch at nationals with one hit and one RBI.

In two pool play games Jones was 2-for-3 with two walks and four RBIs.

She will play next season for the Miami University Redhawks and is expected to see time immediately as a utility player.

Cascade's Brandyce Sallee was also a member of the Shockwaves. She had three hits and two RBIs in the tournament and will play next year at Butler University.

Other players on the Shockwaves include Tipton's Shelby Hursh, who will attend Ohio State, Greenwood's Kelly Pevely, who will play at IPFW, Noblesville's Hannah DeSalvo, who will play at the University of Dayton and Hanover Central senior Ashley Yoways.
