Richard 'Dick' R. Benge

Richard (Dick) R. Benge, 62, Roachdale, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 while hiking with his grandsons.

Born on April 27, 1951 in Indianapolis to Les and Barbara (Taylor) Benge. They preceded him in death.

He worked at AT & T for 17 years as a field coordinator. Formerly, he had been employed at Wood-Mizer in Indianapolis.

Richard is survived by his wife, Norma Jean (Sanders) Benge; two children, Kristina Yeley and husband Robert, of Danville, and Sarah Colon and husband Joseph, of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Tom Benge and wife Norma, and Doug Benge and wife Jane; three sisters, Linda Muller, Toni Roland and husband David, and Judi Sigman and husband Steve; three stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a strong Christian man, hard working, caring, fun loving, and always had a joke for everyone. He loved spending time outdoors.

Dick's greatest joys were spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them to fish, swim, ride 4-wheelers and archery.

He attended Calvary Fellowship Church in Greencastle.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Rick Fay of Calvary Fellowship Church officiating.

Interment will follow at the Hartman Cemetery, Roachdale.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9.
