Amy Christine (Zeiner) Richards, age 98, of Greencastle, died peacefully surrounded by family at Asbury Towers, on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013.

She was born June 22, 1915 in Fillmore, Ind., to Elisha Alton and Della Olus (Nichols) Zeiner.

She graduated from Fillmore High School in the class of 1933 and from Indiana Business College in 1934.

During her youth, she played the piano for the Fillmore Christian Church for several years.

After graduation she was a homemaker and worked for the Putnam County Extension Office; Triple A Government Office; and as office manager and bookkeeper for the DePauw Bookstore 16 years until her retirement.

Amy had many interests and excelled in baking, cooking, gardening and hybridizing daylilies, canning, sewing, knitting, crocheting and playing the piano.

She was a devoted caregiver to her mother for many years, and that trait carried over to her husband, children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed the Stitch and Chatter Club, her church, First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and the Christian Women's Fellowship and her membership in the Washburn Chapter of DAR.

She married John Raymond Richards on June 12, 1937 and they were together more than 60 years before his death on April 4, 1998.

Amy is survived by her four children, Nancy Ann (Jim) Clifford, Bainbridge, Virginia "Ginny" Carolyn Gould (Paul), Spring Hill, Tenn., John Stephen "Steve" Richards (Becky), Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Mary Christine Richards Walker (Joe), Bloomington; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren (with a 17th due in November) three nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Lois Zeiner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. Dr. Paul Champion officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the donor's favorite charity. A special "thanks" to the care providers of Asbury Towers, where Amy lived.
