'Gone Fishing' youth program set Aug. 25 at Jaycee Park

Monday, August 19, 2013

Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department is inviting youth age 17 and younger to learn more about fishing by joining them at Jaycee Park on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The 1-5 p.m. "Gone Fishing" program will help answer questions such as: What are the requirements for a fishing license? What bait is used for bluegill, catfish and bass? What size hook should be used in fishing from the bank at Jaycee Park? What type of rod and reel are best?

Assistant Park Director Troy Scott will explore the sport of fishing and the joys of the "hidden jewel" of Greencastle's Jaycee Park.

The opportunity to go fishing is included. Catching a fish, however, is optional.

The class will meet most requirements of the Boy Scout Fishing Merit Badge.

Cost of the program is $5 per person. A minimum of six anglers is necessary for the program to occur. Registration deadline is Thursday, Aug. 22.
