Sheriff's Department

At 5:03 a.m. Monday, a caller at 1009 W. CR 1000 South notified dispatch to say a vehicle had driven through his backyard and was now stuck on a stump in the neighbor's yard.

Lt. Dwight Simmons, along with Deputy Kyle Gibbons, arrived on the scene to find a 1995 Ford Thunderbird stuck on the stump at 1041 W. CR 1000 South.

Investigation revealed that Chad R. Posey, 28, Poland, had been northbound on State Road 243 at County Road 1000 South, a T intersection. However, he did not turn left or right.

Instead, he traveled directly north into the yard at 1009 W. CR 1000 South, driving between a house and a detached garage. The vehicle then turned west in a wooded area, crossing through a fence and onto the property at 1041 W. CR 1000 South.

The Thunderbird then struck a parked 1998 Buick Regal registered to Jacob T. Thompson. Posey's car pushed the other approximately five feet to the west, where they both came to rest.

Posey attempted to leave the scene but was detained by Thompson.

Posey was then transported to Putnam County Hospital for blood and urine analysis, which showed him to be under the influence of controlled substances and marijuana.

He was transported to the Putnam County Jail and booked in for operating while intoxicated at 7:45 a.m.

No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Police

A two-vehicle accident resulted in a traffic citation for one of the drivers Saturday afternoon, Greencastle City Police reported.

The mishap occurred at 2:41 p.m. on North Jackson Street near New York and nearly in front of the City Police station.

Stacy Boswell, 38, Greencastle, was southbound on Jackson Street, driving a 2007 Toyota Camry when she slowed to turn left into a gas station.

Traveling behind Boswell in a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, Shea Branson, 20, Greencastle, attempted to go around Boswell on the right but did not have enough room and scraped the right rear of her car.

Officer Albert Epple estimated total damage at $2,500-$5,000.

Branson was ticketed for a learner's permit violation with no licensed driver present in the vehicle.
