Pedal the Pathways bike event hits the trail Sept. 21

Friday, August 23, 2013

People Pathways will be hosting a bike ride, Pedal the Pathways, to introduce and celebrate the Vandalia Trail on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The ride will take place on a segment of the developing 12-mile multi-use Vandalia Trail, which connects Putnam County to Hendricks County.

Participants are able to chose from four round-trip rides, a one-mile, three-mile, an 8.2-mile ride to Fillmore or 18-mile ride to Coates-ville.

All rides are on packed-stone, multi-use trail so "fat" tire and off-road bicycles are recommended.

Registration will be at the Greencastle trailhead or Gazebo located at the intersection of Indianapolis Road and State Road 240 across from Walmart. Participants can register from 10 a.m. to noon with the ride taking place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Riders will have rest stops along the way with snacks and drinks. All proceeds from the ride will be used for maintenance, upkeep and projects of People Pathways.

Interested participants need to provide a name, age with birth date, address, email address and emergency contact information to register.

Registration forms can be picked up at Greencastle City Hall, the Putnam County Convention and Visitor Bureau or by calling Joy Marley at 653-6178.
